Pleasure Craft Licences

Boaters buying used pleasure crafts now have 90 days to transfer the licence into their name. They may continue to operate their "new" boat during this period with the existing licence on Pleasure Craft Licences

Pleasure Craft Licences

As of November 1, 2010, Transport Canada is the only federal institution issuing Pleasure Craft Licences. To obtain a free Pleasure Craft Licence, boaters must mail a completed application form, along with proof of vessel ownership and a signed copy of a valid piece of government-issued identification, to the Pleasure Craft Licensing Centre at the following address:

Pleasure Craft Licensing Centre
PO Box 2006
Fredericton NB  E3B 5G4

The Pleasure Craft Licensing program improves public safety and security by giving search and rescue and law enforcement agencies 24 hour, seven-day a week access to the licence information they need in emergency situations. It also provides data useful for tracking industry trends related to the many types of boating activity in Canada.

Application Information

Did you know that any pleasure craft powered by a motor of 10 hp (7.5 kW) or more must have a valid licence? A pleasure craft licence allows search and rescue personnel and other agencies to quickly identify your boat in the event of an emergency.
